{"id":517,"date":"2017-06-20T17:09:22","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T17:09:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rohrzim.org\/?p=517"},"modified":"2018-07-12T14:56:29","modified_gmt":"2018-07-12T14:56:29","slug":"rohr-zimbabwe-combined-manchester-liverpool-branches-meeting-saturday-14th-june-2014-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rohr-zimbabwe.org\/index.php\/2017\/06\/20\/rohr-zimbabwe-combined-manchester-liverpool-branches-meeting-saturday-14th-june-2014-report\/","title":{"rendered":"ROHR Zimbabwe Combined Manchester &#038; Liverpool Branches Meeting Saturday 14th June, 2014 Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ROHR Zimbabwe Combined Manchester &amp; Liverpool Branches Meeting Saturday 14th June, 2014 Report<\/p>\n<p>By: Panyika Karimanzira \u2013 Information &amp; Publicity Secretary 16th June, 2014<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday 14th June, 2014 Restoration of Human Rights (ROHR) Zimbabwe human<\/p>\n<p>rights activists from Manchester, Rochdale, Bolton, Liverpool, Darwen and Crewe in<\/p>\n<p>the UK converged at Salford University (Room MS1.32), in Manchester for a combined<\/p>\n<p>Manchester &amp; Liverpool Branches meeting which started at 2:00 pm and ended at<\/p>\n<p>4:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was also attended by a member of the Board of Trustees, namely<\/p>\n<p>Panyika Anselm Karimanzira (International Spokesperson). Apologies were received<\/p>\n<p>from Paradzai Mapfumo (a member of the Board of Trustees), Delina Mutyambizi<\/p>\n<p>(Treasurer in the National Executive Committee \u2013 UK Chapter and outgoing<\/p>\n<p>Chairperson of Manchester Branch), Lorraine Mudyiwa (Co-ordinator \u2013 North \u2013<\/p>\n<p>UK Chapter), Phyllis Chibanguza Co-ordinator \u2013 UK Chapter), Eve Mwadiwa, Kelly<\/p>\n<p>Muranganwa and Susan Ndlovu.<\/p>\n<p>Other attendees included Pythias Makonese (Vice Chairperson of Manchester branch<\/p>\n<p>and from Crewe) as well as activists Chipiwa Stella Makaranga (fundraiser), Mavu<\/p>\n<p>Chinyani (fundraiser and from Darwen), Petronella Mahachi (Secretary and from<\/p>\n<p>Liverpool), David Ngwenya (Treasurer and from Bolton), Mishell Chirunga (from<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Liverpool), Tichapondwa Shoriwa, William Shoriwa and Chris Deda<\/p>\n<p>Panyika Karimanzira updated the meeting on current human rights situation in<\/p>\n<p>Zimbabwe as well as the activities of ROHR Zimbabwe on the ground in Zimbabwe<\/p>\n<p>and also in South Africa and the UK. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was<\/p>\n<p>discussed in great detail and so were the Aims &amp; Objectives of ROHR Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>This was in line with the ongoing theme \u201cWho is a human rights activist\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was interactive with everyone participating in the proceedings. The<\/p>\n<p>issue of the way forward for the UK Chapter of ROHR Zimbabwe and, by extension,<\/p>\n<p>Manchester &amp; Liverpool Branch in its ever-important role of providing material and<\/p>\n<p>intellectual resources to the people on the ground in Zimbabwe was revisited and<\/p>\n<p>deliberated upon and so were the implications of the mooted easing of targeted<\/p>\n<p>sanctions on some of the ruling elite in Zimbabwe by the EU on the human rights<\/p>\n<p>situation in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>There was also a lively question and answer session during which everyone present<\/p>\n<p>contributed to the ensuing debate on a wide range of topics, including ROHR<\/p>\n<p>Zimbabwe\u2019s ongoing involvement with and impact on the activities on the ground<\/p>\n<p>in Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting then proceeded to elect a substantive Manchester &amp; Liverpool Branch<\/p>\n<p>Committee. The resultant substantive Branch Committee is as follows; &#8211;<br \/>\nChairperson: &#8211; Pythias Makonese, Vice Chairperson: &#8211; Mavu Chinyani, Secretary: &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Petronella Mahachi, Vice Secretary: &#8211; Sithembiso Sibanda, Organizing Secretary: &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>William Shoriwa, Deputy Organizing Secretary: &#8211; Vacant, Information &amp; Publicity<\/p>\n<p>Secretary: &#8211; Vacant (Panyika Karimanzira to act), Deputy Information &amp; Publicity<\/p>\n<p>Secretary: &#8211; Vacant,\u00a0Fundraiser 1: &#8211; Chris Deda, Fundraiser 2: &#8211; Mishell Chirunga,<\/p>\n<p>Activist 1: &#8211; Chipiwa Stella Makaranga Activist 2: &#8211; Hedwig Tabikira, Activist 3: &#8211; Artwell<\/p>\n<p>Pfende.
