Machakaire, Kauza Mugarisanwa,\nMarian Mangani, Reuben Gwaya, Sammy Goronga, Sherry Mutandwa, Blessing Goronga,\nLenny Banda, Evelyn Chibanda, Musawenkosi Dladla, Precious N Moyo, Matha\nMutima, Gladys Mutimukulu and Vice Chairperson, Ruvimbo Olive Ruzvidzo (present\nvia the phone)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apologies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apologies were received from Nicolate Gwati and Chinofunga Ndoga<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting started at 14.40 hrs and was chaired by the branch\nchairperson Tsungirirayi Kahiya. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minutes were taken by Lilian Nleya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organizing Secretary, Lilian Tinashe Nleya\naddressed the standard housekeeping issues, including introductions before\nhanding over to the Chairperson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agenda items for the meeting included; &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Financial Report, Preparations for the national\n(UK Chapter) meeting, guiding theme for the year 2018, Starting up projects and charitable activities,\nFundraising, Communication Channels, Aims and\nobjectives of ROHR Zimbabwe plus understanding the roles of the individual\nportfolios of committee members,\nVacancies in the branch committee, Sourcing of venues for meetings. There was\nalso a Question &amp;Answer session as the last item of the substantive agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the agenda items were deliberated upon in\ndetail and in a robust and enthusiastic way in a meeting where everyone present\nmade contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting agreed on a number of action points\nwhich included; &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nThe branch to come up with ideas to feedback at the ROHR national meeting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nTo embark on charity work both here in the UK and in Zimbabwe<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nTo help the blind people or street kids in Zimbabwe e.g. the couple helping\nchildren in Dzivarasekwa at Jubilee Compass<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nTo help rural clinics and hospitals in Zimbabwe with supplies such as medical\nequipment and medical supplies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nTo help rural schools plus special schools with books and stationary<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nTo approach one Maimba Mapuranga about the project that he is running in Harare\nwhich helps the children who are looked after by the children homes by\nproviding them with sporting activities over a 7-day period<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;&nbsp; To source and donate reading glasses to the\nneedy (especially school going children) in Zimbabwe<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In relation to the filling of vacant posts the meeting\nagreed the following procedure; &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nMembers would volunteer or nominate someone for a post<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nThe nomination would be seconded by at least one member of the branch<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nTo be eligible for nomination for a post, one needed to be a fully subscribed\nmember and also be a person who takes part in the activities of the\norganisation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nThe list of the volunteers for the positions would be vetted based on the above\ncriteria next month (in February 2018).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nThe positions available are as follows: Organising Secretary, Fundraisers (up\nto 3) and Committee Members (up to 3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;\nThe posts were explained in full for members to understand what these positions\nwould entail<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Nominations for the positions\nwere done<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;In\nrelation to the Financial Re;-port, Grace Makoni gave an account of the\nbranch\u2019s finances and the balance in the books. She also reminded the meeting\nof the need for all members to update their members\u2019 subscriptions and for the\nmeeting to mobilise all other members who were not present at the meeting to do\nthe same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nrelation to the fundraising members brainstormed fundraising ideas. Some of the\nideas adopted by the meeting were;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&#8211;\nAn offer by Grace Makoni to donate maputi and peanuts that could be sold at\nmeetings and national events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;&nbsp; A suggestion by Lilian Tinashe Nleya to\nsource and sell earrings with Zimbabwe flag and bandanas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nrelation to Communication Channels Tsungirirayi Kahiya explained the communication\nprocedure to follow when there are grievances, the people to approach and \/ or\nthe appropriate platforms on which to air grievances. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AOB<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nchairperson emphasised the need for members to understand the history as well\nas the aims and objectives of ROHR Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She\nalso urged portfolio holders, each to understand the roles of the individual\nportfolios of executive committee members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also encouraged all members\nto make use of their talents and areas of specialty to serve the organization.\nThe following members volunteered to work in the areas of their strengths as\nfollows;-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Lilian Tinashe Nleya &#8211;\nPromotions <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Evelyn &#8211; Computer design<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Precious Nomakhosazana Moyo &#8211;\nWriting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members were also asked each to participate in the\nsearch for either free or cheap venues for meetings in future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the agenda items were deliberated upon in\ndetail and in a robust and enthusiastic way in a meeting where everyone present\nmade contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With all the agenda items having been disposed of,\nthe Chairperson Tsungirirayi Kahiya declared the meeting closed at 17.05 hrs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To view pictures taken at the event, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rohr_zimbabwe__manchester\/albums\/72157689926807462\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By: Information &amp; Publicity Department<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>27th January 2018, On Saturday 27th January 2018, 18 members of the Midlands branch of the UK Chapter of Restoration of Human Rights (ROHR) Zimbabwe converged at Secular Hall, 75 Humberstone Gate, Leicester, LE11WB, United Kingdom for a general meeting.
