ROHR Zimbabwe Leicester General Meeting 22nd June, 2013 Report

On Saturday 22nd June, 2013 Restoration of Human Rights (ROHR) Zimbabwe human rights activists from all over the UK converged at Methodist Church, 10 A Bishop Street, Leicester LE1 6AF for a general meeting which started at 2:00 pm and ended at 6:00 pm.

The meeting was chaired by the Secretary of the National Executive Committee of the UK Chapter of ROHR Zimbabwe, Mr Bvumai Christopher Chimbumu. Other members of the National Executive Committee of the UK Chapter who attended are Paradzai Mapfumo (National Coordinator), Panyika Karimanzira (Secretary for Information & Publicity), Phyllis Chibanguza (Coordinator), Rodah Kuhlengisa (Fundraiser) and Wellington Rupere (Deputy Secretary).

Other attendees included Munyaradzi Katsonga, Clarkson Shumbanhete (Chairperson of Hatfield branch), Mazo Chinguwa, David Ngwenya, Mercy Nyamuka, Nyasha Mangadzi, Retina Mudzi, Christina Ndlovu, Matha Mutima, Tsitsi Jonas and Maureen mapfumo

Responding to a question from Munyaradzi Katsonga regarding the perception that there were two factions of ROHR Zimbabwe, the Secretary for Information & Publicity, Panyika Karimanzira chronicled the history of ROHR Zimbabwe from inception in August 2007 to today, including the firing of Ephraim Tapa in 2011. He also mentioned that EphraimTapa went on to register a new organization called ROHR International, hence the confusion. Panyika Karimanzira promised to send copies of the legal document for ROHR Zimbabwe, namely The Deed of Donation & Trust to any member asking for one, so that they could see for themselves who was who at inception and who is who today. The National Co-ordinator, Paradzai Mapfumo, with the aid of useful pieces of evidence, also helped explain the yesteryear shenanigans of Ephraim Tapa in the context of ROHR Zimbabwe.

The most important part of the meeting was a lively question and answer session during which everyone present, including a well-known solicitor, contributed to the ensuing debate on a wide range of topics, including ROHR Zimbabwe’s ongoing involvement with and impact on the activities on the ground in Zimbabwe.
The meeting ended at a high note with announcements of forthcoming meetings, the next of which would be in Nottingham on the 6th of July, 2013.
